The English placement test measures students’ ability to use and understand English at the university level. The speaking section assesses a wide range of skills, and students are expected to demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly on everyday topics and common experiences, to organize their ideas in a coherent manner, and to justify their opinions with relevant examples and analysis. The writing tasks test their ability to write a descriptive report, and to produce a coherent and convincing argument on a given topic.

The Intensive English Programme aims to prepare and equip you with both receptive (listening and reading) and productive (writing and speaking) skills which should enable you to excel in your undergraduate/foundation studies and also to interact meaningfully with the world. Evidently, language learning is synonymous with
learning to communicate. When it comes to communication, we adopt the four Cs: clarity, coherence, competence and confidence. Clear thinking results in clear writing. We use
language to express and to reaffirm that signature voice in us. It is about
translating our ideas and thoughts into words and sentences which are coherent, convincing, engaging and authentic. When we begin to think in English and use English effortlessly, a miracle happens within our hearts and minds. We shed our fears and inhibitions, while becoming more at ease with the language. This can only happen when we put aside differences and tap on the endless potential of each individual. When we rise beyond the limits, our windows in life become bigger and clearer. |
