Course image MED203 Science of Prescriptions 2024/04 Dr. Woo
2023 - 2024

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a holistic medical system that has been practiced for thousands of years. It includes various treatment modalities, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary therapy, and exercise. One important aspect of TCM is the science of prescriptions, which involves the formulation and use of herbal remedies to treat various health conditions.

In TCM, herbal prescriptions are carefully crafted based on the individual's specific symptoms, constitution, and underlying imbalances. The herbs used in these prescriptions are selected for their specific properties and actions, such as warming, cooling, tonifying, or dispersing. The combination of herbs in a prescription is designed to achieve a synergistic effect and restore balance in the body.

TCM prescriptions can be in the form of raw herbs, herbal powders, pills, or decoctions. They are often tailored to the individual's needs and may be adjusted over time as the person's condition changes. The effectiveness of TCM prescriptions relies on the skill and knowledge of the TCM practitioner in diagnosing the underlying imbalances and selecting the appropriate herbs.
