This course introduces students to reference books (dictionaries). Chinese characters and classical Chinese grammar so as to increase students’ knowledge of classical Chinese. Reading the articles from Zuo Zhuan and Zhan Guo Ce will cultivate students’ perceptual knowledge.
介绍古代汉语基本工具书。介绍汉字与古汉语语法知识以提升学生的理性知识。精读《左传》和《战国策》等文章以培养学生的感性知识。This course provides a closer study on the most prosperous dynasty of Chinese history: Tang dynasty. It includes the topics on the development and transition of pre-Tang period, early Tang period, flourishing mid-Tang period, late Tang period, and some famous characters in Tang dynasty, the political system, economic system and military system, etc. And some topics on the daily life in Tang dynasty. Students are also taught the basic theoretical methods to conduct historical research. |
This course provides an analytical and general study of overseas Chinese worldwide, including in Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, North America and Europe. It gives an insight of the impacts and issues surrounding them, their lives, the internal divisions in their communities, as well as their relationship within or outside their host country, including China, either in the economic or political perspectives.
This course covers the history starting from the Spring and Autumn period, covering Warring States, Qin, Han, Wei, Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties, Sui, Tang, right up to the Five Dynasties. It focuses on political institutions, territorial expansions and contractions, economic conditions, social changes, religious developments, and cultural transformations and pluralism during those period. |
This course emphasizes the practical abilities of thinking critically and analyzing information effectively. The course consists of basic knowledge in argumentation, logical fallacies, deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning. It also emphasizes the ability to apply the basic techniques and knowledge in analyzing real-life cases, such as everyday ethical, legal, and scientific reasoning.

Course Description: This module selected article from Sima Qian's 'Historical Records' are chosen for in-depth analysis. The primary focus of instruction includes meticulous reading of the text and subsequent interpretation of historical, literary, and philosophical ideas. The aim is to integrate the reading of the text with the interpretation of ideas, emphasizing the continuity of humanistic thought through the ages and the consistent spirit thereof.
