Thsi course exposes students to various aspects of investoigative journalism, including investigative news writing skills.

This courze will expose students  to acquire commentary writing skills.

The course introduces knowledge on editing in the information age, the fundamentals of editing, and the process of editing for different media, including the print media, the broadcast media and the new media. Students also learn on the technique of editing by design concept and design pages on computers by using relevant desktop publishing software while critically assessing the content of the pages.

This course provides an overview of the foundational principles and basic issues of media ethics and law. Different ethical theories (such as categorical imperative, golden mean, utilitarianism, potter box) and laws including international and local laws are discussed based on the relevant case studies.

JRN017 Cinematic Communication 2025/09 Ang Bin Yee

This course introduces students to the study of communication in a global context. It explores how media, culture, politics, and technology shape communication across national and cultural boundaries. Topics include globalization of media, international news flow, cross-cultural communication, public diplomacy, global media systems, and the role of international organizations. Students learn to analyze how communication practices influence international relations, cultural exchange, and global public opinion.

This course explores principles for crafting compelling feature stories, including conducting thorough research and interviews in the reporting process and writing engaging feature articles. 

This course focuses on the core concept of journalism, delving deeper into specific areas of journalism. The beats that will be covered include politics, police, and courts. It also goes on to teach students about covering sports, science, business, international affairs, and spreading peace through the news.  

This is a core subject for all journalism students. Students will learn the basics of news writing.  You will cover the craft of writing the news, including using the correct journalistic style, writing news leads, handling details, and using background information to add impact to your story.
