The course provides an overview of the history of journalism in global and local contexts. It introduces students to key concepts, theories and principles of journalism. It also covers journalism's professional practices and specific issues involving the media in different socio-political systems.
The course introduces knowledge on editing in the information age, the fundamentals of editing, and the process of editing for different media, including the print media, the broadcast media and the new media. Students also learn on the technique of editing by design concept and design pages on computers by using relevant desktop publishing software while critically assessing the content of the pages.

Different ethical theories (such as categorical imperative, golden mean, utilitarianism, potter box) and laws including international and local laws are discussed based on the relevant case studies.
