This course introduces the composition and properties of seawater, the basic characteristics of chemicals in seawater and chemical processes in the ocean. Chemical oceanography is an essential part of the interdisciplinary knowledge necessary to understand the oceans. At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Analyse the composition and properties of chemicals in seawater
2. Evaluate chemical processes and cycles in the ocean
3. Explain global current issues related to chemical oceanography
This course is designed to accompany the Chemical Oceanography lecture course (MEC302). It focuses on methods and practical skills for conducting laboratory experiments in chemical oceanography. Topics include analysis of seawater chemistry, data handling and writing experiment reports. At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Construct methods for analysing chemical parameters of seawater
2. Demonstrate skills in conducting laboratory experiments in chemical oceanography
This course covers the basic concepts and operational skills of remote sensing and the use of digital imagery in different environmental applications.
FSC111 Programming in Language C
This is an entry level course aimed at introducing C programming. Major fundamental concepts of C programming
which will be taught includes: control flows (iterations), functions, pointers & arrays, structures and I/O.
Students are also exposed to useful C library functions.
