This course introduces doctoral students to experimental design and research planning for their PhD studies. It covers fundamental and specialized methodologies in marine science, along with essential statistical techniques for data analysis. Emphasis is placed on selecting appropriate research methods, ensuring scientific rigor, and applying statistical tools to support robust and reliable findings. The course incorporates Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Values-Based Education (VBE), promoting sustainability, intellectual honesty, cooperation, relationship management, and self- and social awareness. It also introduces entrepreneurship and commercialisation to explore the application and market value of marine research in support of SDG 14: Life Below Water.
MBT406 Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) course covers basic concept, principles and current issues related to integrated coastal management including policy design strategy
MEC201 Analytical Chemistry course focuses on quantitative measurements that involves the procedure of separation, identification and quantification of chemical compounds. This course also includes methods and practical skills for conducting laboratory experiments with the application of analytical instruments.
The course covers diverse key aspects of local and global marine environmental related policy issues ranging from archipelagos, continental shelves, semi-enclosed seas to urbanizing shorelines whereas it focuses on the rationale of policy-making and integration of its strategies.
