Mechanics (MAT), PHY101, motions in systems, turgut.yimaz@xmu.edu.my
This course teaches intermediate to advanced methods of classical mechanics. Topics include a brief review of Newtonian mechanics, Lagrangian Mechanics, non-inertial frames, rotating rigid bodies, collisions and scattering, central force motion and Hamiltonian Mechanics.
This course teaches introductory level the fundamentals of electricity, magnetism and electrodynamics. Topics include Coulumb’s law and Gauss law, electric potential, capacitance and dielectrics, direct current circuits, magnetic force and magnetic fields, Ampere’s law, electromagnetic induction, alternating current circuits, electromagnetic waves and their properties, and Maxwell equations.
The course covers the fundamental laws of physics by describing it on various concepts, mathematical representation and predicting the outcomes of actual natural situation
This course teaches the fundamental theorems and analytical methods for electrical and electronic circuits. It will serve as the precursor to advanced electronic circuit design, and would also lead to circuital modelling of physical systems. Topics include Kirchoff's current and voltage laws, nodal and mesh analysis, RLC circuits, Laplace and Fourier transforms for small signal analysis, circuit networks, basic diodes, transistors and operational amplifiers.
This course provides an overview of the physical principles of modern semiconductor devices, including the P-N junction diode, bipolar
devices, metal-oxide-semiconductor devices, quantum and photonic devices. Advance devices will also be discussed including Tunnel Field
Effect transistors. Students will acquire physics knowledge required to design advance semiconductor devices through lectures and
independent learning, and will be assesed via report, presentation and examination
Undergraduate Research I is a major elective to provide outstanding undergraduates an opportunity to pursue independent research under the supervision of researchers and professors. Students will engage actively in research, discussions, intellectual communications and other creative activities. By complementing
This is an guided design lab module to stimulate student's creativity of designing experiments and/or instruments for investigation of physics phenomena. At the end of the module, students will undergo a brief viva to explain their design steps taken to investigate their physics problem.
This lab module complements the teaching of PHY103 Electromagnetism and PHY104 Modern Physics.
This lab module complements the teaching of PHY101 Mechanics and PHY102 Thermal Physics.
This course covers mathematical techniques relevant to physics. The first part consists of elementary complex analysis, including complex functions and derivatives, Taylor and Laurent series, and contour integrations. The second part of the course involves methods solving partial differential equations. The topics are boundary conditions, the wave, heat, and Poisson equations, separation of variables, and special functions.
This course introduces students to calculus. Topics covered include: functions, limits, continuity, derivatives, partial derivatives, mean value theorem for derivative, indefinite integral, definite integral, fundamental theorem of calculus, applications of derivatives, maximum and minimum, rate of change, mean value theorem for integrals, pplications of integrals, techniques of integration, improper integrals, sequences, series, and power series.
A first course in quantum physics describing the failure of classical physics and the birth of the Modern physics.Solution of one dimensional and three dimensional problem will be discussed. Important concept of quantum mechanics and its applications would be introduced.
We shall use quantum mechanics to understand the property of solid. Phonon and electron band structure will be discussed in detail. Students need good background of quantum mechanics equivalent to PHY104.
